Read below for definitions of fees mentioned in tuition and fees.

This fee is assessed to full time and part time undergraduate students. It is prorated per credit for students enrolled in less than 12 undergraduate credits. 

It is used to provide students their SMU ID card, support student activities, student access to the Library, Rec Center, Career Center, and can also be used for movie theater discounts at some local cinemas.

This fee is assessed to students enrolled in courses associated with the School of Engineering and Computer Science. It is used to provide updated publication materials for careers in these fields.

This fee is assessed for online or WEB classes and Blended Online (BOL) courses to support ITS, maintain the network and provide technical support.

This surcharge is actually tuition and not a fee. It is used to support the ‘professional’ programs that have a higher cost to offer to our students. 

This fee is assessed when a student applies for graduation during a given semester to support the printing of diplomas, cost of diploma covers and some commencement activities.

This deposit is used to secure a housing assignment and to cover any damage or improper check-out fees upon a student’s departure from campus. The room damage deposit carries over from year to year.

This fee supports the Health Center services and Wellness Center on campus.

The Student Health Center assists students with a wide range of health issues, including colds, flu, COVID-19 and other medical concerns.

The Counseling and Wellness Center promotes and enhances the health and development of ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â students through professional mental health services, education and training. 

This fee is used to purchase and maintain lab equipment for specific courses.

Student health insurance is required for students enrolled on the Lacey campus at least half time in face-to-face classes. It enables students to have benefits towards hospital care, doctor visits and pharmacy. Students are enrolled in SMU’s student insurance plan if they do not provide proof of acceptable personal insurance by the semester deadline through the online insurance waiver portal.

The SMU Textbook Program is a rental program that gives you access to all your course materials, so students do not need to shop around. Students are able to receive all materials, physical books and digital materials, before the first day of class increasing the chance of success in their courses.

Students are not required to use this rental program and can opt-out each semester if they choose. Opt-out deadline is prior to the end of add/drop for the semester/term.

These fees can be charged to students who register past the registration deadline for the semester and any student who does not pay or make appropriate payment arrangements by the start of the semester.

This fee allows for Housing and Residence Life to support student enrichment opportunities that focus on our Benedictine Values and our core themes of Faith, Service, Reason and Community within the residence halls.

This fee covers several costs associated with offering a Nursing major. Some of these costs include:
